About Dr. Cavazos
G. Javier Cavazos, D.P.M. was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. After graduating with Honors from Mission High School, Dr. Cavazos left the Valley to attend the University of Notre Dame where he earned his Bachelor's of Science Degree. He then pursued his podiatric medical education at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Finch University, Chicago Medical School. Dr. Cavazos received his postgraduate residency training at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he had extensive training in the management of the diabetic foot.
Upon completion of postgraduate training in 1994, Dr. Cavazos opened his private practice in McAllen, Texas. Since then, RGV Footcare has branched to 3 other locations serving the Weslaco, Mission, and Edinburg areas. Dr. Cavazos returned to the Rio Grande Valley because of the need for specialized podiatric service in a heavily diabetic populated area. Being a native of the Valley and losing his grandparents to diabetes- induced complications encouraged him to pursue the subspecialty.
Dr. Cavazos believes the key to managing the diabetic foot is identifying the at risk foot through a thorough risk factor assessment and implementing preventive measures both through medical and surgical means. Dr. Cavazos shared his philosophy in a 1995 Commentary published in the American Diabetes Association Medical Journal - Diabetes Spectrum July / August 1995.
In 2004, Dr. Cavazos became the first foot and ankle surgeon in Texas to perform cryosurgical techniques to the foot. Dr. Cavazos has developed multiple cryosurgical techniques for several foot and ankle ailments. Since 2004, Dr. Cavazos has become the most experienced foot cryosurgeon in the United States and will be sharing his experiences in various medical journal publications in late 2008.
Dr. Cavazos is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics & Primary Podiatric Medicine, and is also a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. Dr. Cavazos has been serving the Rio Grande Valley for 13 years. In addition to owning RGV Footcare PA, Dr. Cavazos is the President and CEO of GNJ Realty Investments, and Cavmor Development, two real estate limited liability corporations owning multiple commercial building properties throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Dr. Cavazos balances his active rigorous schedule by studying Martial Arts. In 2007, he earned his first black belt, and currently continues his training in hopes of becoming a black belt master.Dr. Cavazos enjoys reading, movies, staying physically active, and spending time with his wife Nancy, and his 2 children, Jonathan and Allyson.
